PlanningWhen to Book a Villa in Tuscany: How Far Ahead by Month
When to Book a Villa in Tuscany
For July and August, book a Tuscany villa 9 to 12 months ahead; the most popular villas go 12 to 18 months ahead. For May, June and September, allow about six months for the best estates. For October, three to four months is usually enough, and spring and autumn often have short-notice gaps. Weddings need 12 to 18 months.
How Far Ahead to Book, by Season
| When you travel | How far ahead to book | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| July and August | 9 to 12 months; 12 to 18 for the most popular villas | July is the most-booked month. Family villas with fenced pools go first |
| Easter week | 6 to 9 months | The rest of April books later |
| May, June and September | About 6 months for the best estates; 3 to 4 months for wider choice | Grape-harvest weeks in late September book early |
| October | 3 to 4 months | Short-notice weeks often open about six weeks out |
| November to March | Shorter lead times | Ask with your dates, earlier for Christmas and New Year |
| Weddings | 12 to 18 months | Most wedding villas hold one wedding a week |
| Siena Palio (2 July, 16 August) | About a year | Siena fills completely on Palio days |
Why Summer Books So Early
Villas rent by the week and there are only about nine summer weeks, so the best ones go to early planners. Large villas for 12 or more and villas with fenced pools are the scarcest. If your dates are fixed by school holidays, enquire as soon as you know them; if they are flexible, a week either side of July and August can widen the choice.
What to Book at the Same Time
- Flights: choose the airport after the villa; see which airport
- Car hire: book an automatic 4 to 8 weeks ahead; see driving in Tuscany
- Private chef: at least three weeks ahead, six to eight for the most-requested chefs; see villa with a chef
- Florence museums: the Uffizi and the Accademia book up weeks ahead in spring and summer

Frequently Asked Questions
- How far in advance should I book a villa in Tuscany for summer?
- Nine to twelve months ahead for July and August. The most popular villas, and family villas with fenced pools, are often reserved 12 to 18 months ahead.
- Is it too late to book a Tuscany villa for August?
- Not always, but expect less choice. Most August availability is set 9 to 12 months ahead, so later enquiries find gaps rather than a full list. Send your dates and group size and we will tell you what is still free.
- When should I book a villa for a wedding in Tuscany?
- Twelve to eighteen months ahead. Most wedding villas hold one wedding a week in the main season.
- Can I book a Tuscany villa last minute?
- Sometimes, mainly in spring and autumn. Villas booked a year ahead for summer can still have October weeks free six weeks before arrival. July and August rarely have last-minute choice.
- How far ahead should I book for Easter in Tuscany?
- Six to nine months ahead for Easter week. The rest of April books later and is good value for the weather.
- What else should I book when I book the villa?
- Flights, a car (an automatic needs 4 to 8 weeks' notice), a private chef (at least three weeks, six to eight for the most-requested chefs) and museum tickets in Florence (weeks ahead in spring and summer).
