The house

Architecture & restoration

A nineteenth-century manor house with adjoining farm buildings, restored in stages since 2001. Eight bedrooms across the main house and two annexes. Working kitchen, pantry, and a small private chapel.

The setting

Land, view, context

Sixty hectares of olive grove and woodland on the southern slope of the Pizzorne plateau. Lucca, twenty-five minutes; the beaches of Forte dei Marmi, an hour. The estate's own oil, wine, and vegetables are at every meal.

Living here

Breakfast on the long table in the kitchen. A morning ride if you ride — there are horses. Lunch on the terrace with the estate's oil and bread baked that morning. Lucca for the afternoon, walking the walls. Dinner cooked by Marina, who has cooked here for twenty-two years and whose ravioli alone is reason to come.
