Stefano Ricci La Rocca

Castelfalfi

The essence

High in the medieval Rocca that crowns Castelfalfi, this two-level penthouse is the only one of its kind in Tuscany — some three hundred square metres conceived and dressed entirely by the house of Stefano Ricci. Florentine craftsmanship is everywhere: in the hand-stitched leathers, the silks woven at the Antico Setificio Fiorentino, the quiet weight of every fitting. Two suites open onto a private rooftop terrace where a Jacuzzi looks out over the estate's vineyards and the wooded hills beyond. It is less an apartment than a private residence in the sky — served, as the whole estate is, by a five-star hotel that stays discreetly out of sight until it is called upon.

The distinction

Why this villa
is in the collection.

  1. 01

The only Stefano Ricci-designed residence available to rent in Tuscany. Every surface, fabric and object was specified by the Florentine atelier, down to silks from the historic Antico Setificio Fiorentino.

  2. 02

A private rooftop terrace with a Jacuzzi, set within the walls of Castelfalfi's medieval castle — panoramic, utterly private, and held in Tuscan light from morning until late evening.

  3. 03

Two self-contained suites over two levels, with a private chef and the full resources of a five-star estate — spa, golf, cellars and restaurants — a lift-ride below.

The house

Architecture & restoration

La Rocca is the fortified heart of Castelfalfi, a structure with a thousand years behind it. The penthouse occupies its upper levels, where contemporary interiors have been set into the ancient stone with great restraint. Bespoke joinery, sculpted leather and woven silk meet bare beams and thick masonry; the result is modern without ever being cold, and Florentine to the core.

The setting

Land, view, context

Castelfalfi is a 2,700-acre private estate in the hills of Montaione, between Florence and the sea. From the terrace the view runs over the estate's own vineyards and olive groves toward the towers of San Gimignano on a clear day. Pisa airport is about forty minutes; Florence, an hour.

Living here

Wake above the rooftops of a Tuscan borgo, breakfast on the terrace, and let the estate arrange the day — a tasting in the cellars, a fitting with a Florentine tailor, a round of golf, dinner sent up by your own chef.
