At a glance: Casa Lilia sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in Chianti, Tuscany. Pool: its own fenced saltwater pool (9 × 4 m, 1.3 m deep) in a private garden, open mid-May to mid-October.
The essence
Casa Lilia is the guest house of Villa Castellaro, a fifteenth-century estate in the Chianti hills above Tavarnelle Val di Pesa — renovated in a calm, pared-back style. Four double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, open-plan living and dining under pale beams, a veranda and a large terrace look out over the olive groves, with a private garden and a fenced saltwater pool. Let on its own, or with the villa next door for up to twenty-one.

The distinction
Four double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom — three of them opening straight onto the garden through floor-to-ceiling glass.
A private garden and a fenced 9 × 4 m saltwater pool looking out over the Chianti hills.
Open-plan living, kitchen and dining under pale beams, with a veranda and a wide terrace for meals outside.
Part of a family estate: take it alone, or with Villa Castellaro a few steps away for up to twenty-one guests.
The villa
You enter on the first floor into an open-plan space: a kitchen and a long dining table beneath a picture window, and a living room with deep sofas and views across the olive trees. Four double bedrooms — doubles and twins, all with their own bathroom — are finished in white and stone, three of them in a glass-walled wing that opens onto the garden. A veranda and a large terrace carry living outside, and every room is air-conditioned. A welcome basket is waiting on arrival, and the house is cleaned midweek and every Saturday.
The setting
A few steps from the main villa on the Tenuta Castellaro estate, two kilometres from Tavarnelle Val di Pesa's shops, cafés and supermarket, in the heart of Chianti Classico. Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are each around half an hour away; Florence airport is 45 km, Pisa 80 km.

Living here
Coffee on the veranda, the day between the saltwater pool and the garden, and dinner on the terrace as the light drops over the olive groves — with the estate's cook, a cooking lesson or a truffle hunt arranged by the family on request.
Pricing

Chianti
Vendemmia in Chianti is the working two weeks that decide a year. The 5:30am picks, the *cantina* at five in the afternoon, the dinner at the long table afterward. The editor's view of the wine country at work.
