The essence
Il Frantoio is the estate's original olive press, charmingly restored into a warm and intimate home that wears its history openly. Four en-suite bedrooms sleep up to eight; a large, comfortable lounge and a spacious Tuscan kitchen with an eat-in breakfast room complete it. The gardens are wrapped in terraced olive groves, with valley views across the swimming pool to the medieval towers of Lucca. Dating to the sixteenth century, the press served the Controni family — and the village of Vorno — until 1997; during its restoration, the great ancient terracotta oil jars were found still embedded in the cellars.
