At a glance: Villa Vetrichina sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms in Val d'Orcia, Tuscany. Pool: private 15 × 8 m infinity pool with a walk-in step entrance, fully fenced with a gate, loungers, a shaded canopy and a sandpit for little ones.

The essence

A farmhouse from 1789, once used for timber, sheep and the land, reached by a white road that climbs through oak woods just outside San Casciano dei Bagni. Restored with local materials and hand-made furniture, it now sleeps twelve in six en-suite double bedrooms, with a small children's room for two more. Outside are a fenced 15-metre infinity pool, shaded pergolas, a lounge under a reed canopy and lawns among great oaks. Patrizia, the owner, lives on site: a chef-cooked welcome dinner, daily housekeeping and a concierge are part of every stay.

The villa

Architecture & restoration

About 350 m² on two floors. Six double bedrooms, all with king-size beds and their own bathroom with shower (one, the most romantic, with a copper bath); one can be set up as a twin. Beside a ground-floor double is a small children's room with two singles, sharing that bedroom's bathroom. The heart of the house is the first-floor living room with sofas and a fireplace, opening onto a dining area around a long oak table; big windows look into the woods. Kitchen with oven, microwave, two fridges, freezer, dishwasher and professional Nespresso; three pellet fireplaces, air conditioning, Wi-Fi inside and out, smart TV, PS4, Bluetooth speaker, and a laundry with washer, dryer and iron. Outside: pergola dining, a lounge with three sofas, ping-pong, barbecue and private parking; the property is fully fenced with an electric gate.
