At a glance: Villa delle Sorelle sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms in Val d'Orcia, Tuscany. Pool: private 18-metre heated saltwater pool, once the farm's animal trough, long enough for real lengths, looking over the Val d'Orcia (heating on request).

The essence

A stone farmhouse alone on a rise in the Val d'Orcia, with a 360-degree view of rolling hills and Pienza so close on the skyline it feels within reach. Two sisters, Barbara and Sabrina, bought it as ruins in 1999 and spent six years bringing it back with soft colours, old oak floors, hand-painted tiles and an obsession with detail. It sleeps twelve in six bedrooms, with two kitchens, a library lounge with a big fireplace, a 100 m² gym, a vegetable garden in semicircular beds and an 18-metre heated saltwater pool facing the sunset.

The distinction

Why Villa delle Sorelle
is in the collection.

  1. 01

A 360-degree view over the Val d'Orcia, with Pienza on the skyline and the sun setting straight across the pool.

  2. 02

An 18-metre heated saltwater pool, built in the farm's old animal trough — long enough for proper swimming.

  3. 03

A 100 m² gym for yoga, pilates or boxing, and a kitchen garden of herbs and vegetables to pick from.

  4. 04

Daily housekeeping (except Sundays), a welcome dinner of local food with two bottles of local wine, firewood and the tourist tax included.

  5. 05

Restored by its two owners with vintage pieces, hand-painted tiles and a hand-made baldachin — every detail chosen with care.

The villa

Architecture & restoration

Six bedrooms for twelve, with six bathrooms. The heart is a big Tuscan kitchen with modern appliances and a long wooden table for twelve, before a huge arched glass door onto a 30-metre portico; a romantic staircase climbs to a mezzanine (an extra bed can go here). A large lounge has sofas, a library, a big fireplace and a second kitchen for tea and snacks. Upstairs, two master bedrooms flank a small lounge with a terrace: one peach-painted with a 2 × 2 m bed beneath a swan, a shower room and a 170 × 170 cm Villeroy & Boch hydromassage tub behind a silk screen. Elsewhere a soft pastel double with an antique iron bed and a hydromassage bath (the only bathroom outside its room), a blue double or twin with a two-metre double shower, a princess room under a hand-made baldachin, and a glazed veranda for reading among the herbs. Air conditioning throughout (extra), mosquito nets, Wi-Fi, billiards and ping-pong.

The setting

Land, view, context

Deep in the Val d'Orcia, the UNESCO-listed valley of cypress-lined white roads and clay hills, with Pienza — Renaissance town and pecorino capital — in view across the fields. Montepulciano, Montalcino, San Quirico and the hot springs of Bagno Vignoni are all within easy reach; Siena is about an hour away.
