The essence
Villa Poggio d'Oro is a 400-year-old villa on its own hilltop outside Montalcino, its ochre Florentine façade looking straight across to the town and its Brunello vineyards. Renovated from top to bottom between 2023 and 2025, it keeps its chestnut beams and handmade terracotta while adding air conditioning and travertine bathrooms throughout, and sleeps up to twenty-four in twelve en-suite bedrooms arranged as six suites and two deluxe rooms. A three-hectare park, a 600-square-metre panoramic terrace and a 15-metre pool facing Monte Amiata make the outdoors the main room of the house.

Architecture & restoration
Behind the Florentine-style façade, the villa's 539 square metres keep their 400-year-old bones — exposed chestnut beams and handmade terracotta floors — after a complete renovation between 2023 and 2025 that added air conditioning, underfloor-heated bathrooms and Wi-Fi throughout. Twelve bedrooms, each with its own travertine bathroom, are grouped into six suites for two to four guests, every one with a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room, plus two independent deluxe rooms. Canopied and wrought-iron beds, hand-woven Persian carpets, fine Italian fabrics and art sourced locally and at auction set the tone. Taken exclusively, the house adds a large professional kitchen and a lounge for dining, meetings or games.

The Val d'Orcia's cypress roads, Pienza, San Quirico and Bagno Vignoni lie to the east with Monte Amiata on the horizon, the Crete Senesi stretch to the west, and Siena is around half an hour away.
